What is this hackathon about ?

The SDG Accelerator #PolicyHack is a two and a half day event aiming to create a space for the development of new tools and innovations tackling today’s global and local challenges. We want you to bring in your individual skills and professional experiences for a more innovative approach to the topic.

What is the goal of it ?

This “generator of ideas” focuses on the topic of achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls worldwide, by inviting you to create a solution to given gender equality challenges.

Where are the challenges coming from?

On August 31st, we made a public call for challenges or ideas to individuals and organizations to contribute to the topic.

What do I have to do during the hackathon ?

Multi-skilled teams of 3 to 5 people will be formed around challenges. Each team will have to find solutions to its challenge.

What is the schedule of the hackathon ?

The kick-off to the event will take place on Friday evening. Challenge holders will pitch their challenges in front of you. On Saturday, coaches and experts will be available, should you have any question on the subject.

On Sunday, each team will have the opportunity to present its ideas in front of policy makers, decision makers, representatives from academia, think tanks, international organizations and the business world. A mixed jury will give each of the projects individual feedback.

What about the after hackathon ?

We want to support you after the hackathon and in the next project development steps. You will each have access to individual follow up consultancy sessions from the organizers and the challenge holders.

Where and when does it take place ?

The hackathon will take place at the Impact Hub Geneva from Friday evening, November 17th until Sunday afternoon, November 19th 2017.

Is accommodation provided ?

Accommodation is not provided, however cozy chill out zones will be available on spot in order for you to rest and relax. Showers will also be available onsite.

What about the food ?

We will take care of food and beverages including breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the food will be free of charge.

How can I apply ?

How do you select participants ?

You will be chosen and assigned to a team according to your personality, the diversity of each team and your experience, in order to maximize the potential output of each challenge.

When will I know that I am accepted ?

We will get back to you on November 1st 2017.

How much does it cost ?

The hackathon is entirely free of charge, food included !

Is there an age restriction ?

You must be 18 years old at the time of the event in order to participate.

What about intellectual property ?

You submit your project for evaluation and awarding, you do not transfer any rights of your work.
